Tariff Profile

This is the starting point for a tariff. The tariff profile includes some base information about the tariff including the name and type. Each option is described below.

Fields

Tariff Name: This is a unique name used to identify the tariff from your "Tariff List".

Display Name: The "Display Name" is used when showing a rate generated by the tariff. Note: the Display Name is viewable by your customers when they run rates. This name can be the same as the Tariff Name. Just remember that your customers will see the display name on your customer charge tariffs.

Type: This is one of the most important pieces of information. The type determines how the tariff can be used. Access to tariffs is also determined by the type. Only Managers can view and modify Carrier Charges.

  • All - Can be used for both Customer and Carrier charges.
  • Carrier Charges - Can only be used for Carrier Charges.
  • Customer Charges - Can be used only for Customer Charges.
  • Default Customer Charges - This will be default pricing used when a customer does NOT have another tariff specified.
  • Carrier Charges (Customer Specific) - This will be used for carrier charges only on shipments where the bill to customer is linked to the tariff.
  • Disabled - This tariff can not be used for pricing.

Access: Allows access to view this tariff. If this is set to "Manager", only users with the manager or admin access will be allowed to view or modify this tariff. If set to Protected everyone will be able to view the tariff but only Managers can modify the tariff. The tariff type will also affect the access.

Service Description: Describes the type of service being provided, such as Overnight or Expedited.

Comments: Additional notes regarding this tariff. These should be brief and will display when the rate is being used by staff. Customers will NOT see this information.

Save Information: Saves the General Information that has been updated. This Must be done before you can add Service Areas, and FAK's.

Equipment: This is one of the most important parts of the tariff. Least Cost Routing will NOT display a tariff if the equipment type does not match the equipment type selected on the shipment. This includes Partial and Full Shipments. If no equipment types are specified all equipment types will be allowed.

Class FAK: This is used to set the class that the shipment will be rated from. If this is not set the shipment will be rated at actual class. This only applies when running LTL shipments using rating modules.

Copy: Makes a copy of the current tariff. Customer and Carrier links will not be copied.

Delete: Deletes the tariff. This is only available when the tariff is not linked to any customers and carriers.

Notes: Opens the notes for a tariff. The notes will track all changes to the tariff, and display who changed what on the tariff.

COST PLUS: The fields below apply to Cost plus tariffs only. Leave all fields listed below blank if you are working on a Carrier Charge tariff.

Additional Charge: This can be used to add a dollar amount to the generated rate. This can be used to add a standard margin to an existing tariff. The charge can be a flat dollar amount or a percent of the shipping cost. If empty these values will not be used.

There are some special rules that apply when working with the additional charge. If a Base tariff is set then all the service areas and FAK setting from that base tariff will be used to generate the rate. Any service areas set in this tariff will be applied BEFORE the service areas in the base tariff. With FAK settings if there are any settings in this tariff the system will completely ignore the FAK settings in the base tariff.

Min and Max: These values determine the minimum and maximum amount for the additional charge set above. If empty these values will not be used.

Base Tariff: The base tariff is a link to the tariff that will be used to generate the cost plus. This is usually a carrier tariff.

Preferred Carrier: This is used only for Customer charges. When a customer selects this tariff during the shipment creation process the carrier will be set to the shipment. This will allow the dispatcher to dispatch the shipment without selecting the carrier. This primarily applies when a customer has more than one tariff linked and can select the desired Tariff.

Preferred Tariff: This is the tariff that applies to the preferred carrier. If the carrier is set this must also be set. This value will determine the shipment cost for the shipment.
